Workshop/Presentation #1:
How Early Learners Really Learn Math...& What Goes Wrong!
- I have a great workshop/presentation on that!
- Participants found it "eye opening."
Workshop/Presentation #2:
Early Math's Gatekeeper...what key math idea matters most & why?
- When it comes to teaching early math, what math concept is the most critical for young children to understand and why is it so often overlooked?
- Why does this idea matter more than other early math ideas, like how high a child can count?
- What helps a child learn this critical math concept, and what do we think helps them learn it, but doesn't?
- Participants said it changed the way they'd teach pre-K math, and for a few, it helped them understand the source of their own life-long math struggles.
Workshop/Presentation #3:
How To Teach Early Learners To Subitize!
- Most YouTube videos about subitizing miss the mark!
- And, counting books are not designed for subitizing!
- I know the research--What works! What doesn't!
- This eye-opening workshop/presentation is perfect for anyone teaching young children math, especially preschool and early elementary school teachers.
- Call me...this is super important!
Workshop/Presentation #4:
Strengths/Weaknesses of Early Math Books
This is one of my favorite topics! (Psst . . . it was the topic of my master's thesis and other research projects.)
- People do research on math/counting picture books...and I read it!
- Yikes! It turns out that most early math picture/counting books are inconsistent with how children actually learn math.
- But because most people don't know how very young children learn math, we keep making, selecting, and recommending books that are fun and engaging mini works of art, but that can actually harm a child's ability to understand and excel in math.
- Let me help!
This workshop/presentation is perfect for:
- Preschool, K, and elementary school teachers who select, recommend, and use math books
- Parents/grandparents/etc. who want the best math materials for their early learners
- Illustrators and art directors who illustrate and help design math picture/counting books
- Booksellers wanting to make the best selections for their customers.
.
You'll never look at a "math" picture book the same way again. Really!
